What's left behind the scenes

  • The name "Ouija" is actually pronounced "Wija," contrary to the common pronunciation of "Widgee." Charles Kennard, the founder of the company that manufactures these boards, stated that he learned the name "Ouija" by asking the board what it wanted to be called.
  • This is the first horror film from Hasbro Studios.
  • The Ouija board is not ancient; it was patented on May 28, 1890.
  • According to artist Mary Jane Fort, the actors and crew used the Ouija board for fun during breaks in filming to predict the film’s box office earnings for the opening weekend.
  • In the early stages of the film's development, McG was slated to be the director.
  • At the beginning of the film, a girl hangs herself using a garland from her bedroom, but in all subsequent shots, the garland remains in its original position.
  • The chalk found by Trevor in the underpass changes length between shots.
  • After the girl closes the back door, she flinches at the sound of the gas burner turning on by itself. The camera shows the burner from above, and a kettle is visible next to it. In the next shot, she turns off the gas, but the kettle is now on the burner itself, not beside it.
  • The name "Ouija" is actually pronounced "Wee-ja", contrary to the common pronunciation of "Wee-jee". Charles Kennard, the founder of the company that manufactures these boards, stated that he learned the name "Ouija" by asking the board what it wanted to be called.
