What's left behind the scenes
- Catherine Deneuve and Françoise Dorléac (1942-1967) play twins in this film. In real life, they are not twins, but simply sisters.
- The final dance performed by Gene Kelly (1912-1996) – the same one the actor performed in Vincente Minnelli’s musical film “An American in Paris” (1951).
- Françoise Dorléac tragically died in a car accident at the age of 25, three months after the film’s release in France and almost a year before its American release.
- Before settling on Rochefort, Jacques Demy considered Avignon, Yères, Toulouse, and La Rochelle. Rochefort was chosen due to the size of its central square. The film’s art director demanded that 40,000 square meters of houses facing the square be repainted.
