The film is based on the *Double Dragon* series of computer games (1987 – present).
The motorboat chase was filmed on the Cuyahoga River in northeastern Ohio. The chase culminated in an explosion using 2,650 liters of gasoline mixed with 757 liters of alcohol. The day before, a warning about the upcoming explosion was repeatedly broadcast on several television channels, yet some Cleveland residents, hearing the blast, called emergency services, which recorded 210 calls within ten minutes.
The film is based on the "Double Dragon" series of computer games (1987 – present).
