At the end of the film, when the family comes to look at the new house, a sticker can be seen on the car – 'Hooper High Baseball'. This is likely a reference to Tobe Hooper – the director of the original film.
Rosemary DeWitt wanted to star in this film after seeing the audience's reaction to 'The Conjuring' (James Wan, 2013), the premiere of which she attended because her husband, Ron Livingston, starred in it.
