What's left behind the scenes

  • Oliver Rose, as portrayed by Michael Douglas, owned a vintage car known to collectors as a Morgan 4/4 produced by the British company Morgan Motor Company.
  • According to director Danny DeVito, the initially fully edited film ran for 3 hours and 4 minutes. It was significantly shortened and released in theaters with a runtime of 1 hour and 56 minutes. Approximately 20 minutes of deleted scenes can be seen in trailers and on DVD releases.
  • During the filming of the scene where Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner’s characters (playing Oliver and Barbara, respectively) are sitting on a chandelier, director Danny DeVito pretended it was lunchtime while the actors were 9 meters above the floor.
  • In August, a man named Richard Schenkman took his ex-wife, Nancy Taylor, hostage and held her for 13 hours, with some of his actions mirroring what he had seen in this film. Fortunately, she managed to escape, and Schenkman was tried and sentenced to 70 years in prison.
