What's left behind the scenes

  • The film is based on Robert Ludlum’s novel “The Bourne Supremacy” (1986).
  • Brian Helgeland finalized the script, but his name is not mentioned in the credits.
  • To achieve the effect of a documentary film, the vast majority of the movie was shot with handheld cameras. The director also tried to avoid the use of computer graphics. Therefore, almost all the stunts in the film were performed live, without the use of special effects.
  • Various devices used by Bourne throughout the film actually exist, and most of them can be purchased in regular stores.
  • Bourne's ballpoint pen is a Rotring 600.
  • The music heard in the lobby of the 'Hotel Brecker' is Frédéric Chopin's fourth ballad.
  • During the filming of the interrogation scene at the consulate, Matt Damon accidentally knocked out Tim Griffin, who played John Nevins.
  • Essentially, the film was shot in reverse order. This means that filming in Moscow took place first, and the scenes in Goa were shot last.
  • According to the film's screenwriter, Tony Gilroy, he tried to create not an adaptation of the book for the screen, but a reinterpretation of it.
  • In the house in Munich, Jason Bourne uses a rolled-up magazine as a weapon. His fighting tactics come from a Filipino martial art – Eskrima. This style involves actively using everyday objects, including ballpoint pens (as shown in the film *The Bourne Identity* (2002)) and rolled-up newspapers.
  • Kirill's pistol is a Walther P99.
  • In the initial script version, Bourne was supposed to spend a significant amount of time in an Indian prison.
  • The car chase scene on the streets of Moscow received a Taurus World Stunt Award in 2005 in the “Best Vehicle” category. Russian stuntman Viktor Ivanov supervised the staging of this car chase.
  • When Bourne calls Pamela Landy in Berlin, a voice is heard saying, "I need 90 seconds to pinpoint his location." Bourne interrupted the dialogue after 88 seconds.
  • The photograph of Nicky (Julia Stiles) is an actual promotional photo of the actress for the film '10 Things I Hate About You' (1999).
  • The pistol used by Bourne in Moscow is a SIG-Sauer P225.
  • Originally, the film was supposed to end with a scene in which Bourne tells his daughter, Neski, about the death of her parents. However, audiences at test screenings found this ending unfinished and too vague. Therefore, additional scenes were filmed for the movie where Bourne speaks on the phone with Landy, and she tells him his real name. The additional shooting was completed just a few weeks before the film’s premiere.
  • Number of corpses: 9.
  • During the Moscow chase, Matt Damon is genuinely sitting in the driver's seat of a yellow Volga, but in the most dangerous and complex scenes, a professional stunt driver is actually operating it from the roof of the taxi. The controls of one of the cars (around 10 Volga taxis were used for filming the chase) were brought outside in such a way that they were not visible from inside the cabin.
  • During his arrest, the killer shows the police a white card identifying him as an FSB employee – it doesn't resemble an FSB employee ID, a special voucher, or a permit to carry a weapon.
  • In Moscow, the wounded Bourne enters a large tent called a supermarket and exits from an old high-rise building.
  • The scene with the secret documents proving the embezzlement of $20 million in the 1990s and exposing a spy features a 'Combat Log of the 5th Shock Army' from April 1945.
  • Upon arriving in Moscow from Berlin, Jason Bourne takes a taxi, and we see him driving away from Kievsky Railway Station. In reality, all Berlin-Moscow trains arrive at Belorussky Railway Station.
  • During the car chase scene in Moscow, Bourne enters a tunnel. After another collision, it's visible that the front license plate is torn off and bent on the 'G-Wagon.' A few frames later, we repeatedly see that the license plate is in place and not bent.
  • The music that can be heard in the lobby of the Hotel Brecker is Chopin's fourth ballad.
  • In the Munich house, Jason Bourne uses a rolled-up magazine as a weapon. His fighting tactics stem from a Filipino martial art – Eskrima. This style involves actively using everyday objects, including ballpoint pens (as shown in "The Bourne Identity" (2002)) and rolled-up newspapers.
  • The photograph of Nicky (Julia Stiles) is an actual promotional photo of the actress for the film "10 Things I Hate About You" (1999).
  • The filmmakers had no intention of making a sequel to the story of Jason Bourne, and they planned to conclude the film series with this picture. When a decision was made to film "The Bourne Ultimatum" (Paul Greengrass, 2007), the screenwriters had to develop the plot taking into account the final scenes of "The Bourne Supremacy".
  • It took 4 days to film the scene where the assassins approach the house where they hope to find Bourne. When the explosion occurred, the stuntmen playing the assassins were thrown back by the blast wave. This short episode was filmed with six cameras simultaneously.
  • In the scene with the secret documents proving the embezzlement of $20 million in the 1990s and revealing the spy, a copy of "Combat Log of the 5th Shock Army" from April 1945 is shown.
  • During the chase scene in Moscow, Bourne enters a tunnel. After another collision, it is visible that the front license plate has been torn off one side and bent on the "Geländewagen", and a few frames later we see several times that the plate is in place and not bent.
