What's left behind the scenes

  • The real Annabelle doll is a large Raggedy Ann. It can be seen at the Warrens' Occult Museum.
  • Unlike James Wan's film "The Conjuring" (2013), which is supposedly based on real events, this prequel tells a fictional story of the doll's previous owner before it was given to the two caretakers shown at the beginning of "The Conjuring." The only explanation for Annabelle's origin is given by a medium hired by the caretakers, who explained that Annabelle Higgins was a girl from the 1860s whose body was found in a field where a house was later built.
  • Donna's mother gave her the real Annabelle doll in 1970, when she was still a college student. Donna and her roommate Angie noticed that the doll initially moved slightly, and then over several weeks became fully mobile, able to move from one room to another in their absence.
