What's left behind the scenes
- The film is based on Thomas Cobb's novel "Crazy Heart" (1987).
- Scenes in which Bad warms up the audience before Tommy's concert were filmed at a concert by renowned country singer Toby Keith in Albuquerque, for which he received special thanks in the film's credits.
- Jeff Bridges and Colin Farrell sang all the songs in the film themselves, with significant help from vocal coach Roger Love.
- Jeff Bridges based his character on Stephen Bruton, Kris Kristofferson, and John Goodwin. Stephen Bruton died of cancer on May 9, 2009, after filming had already been completed, and the film was dedicated to his memory.
