• The filmmakers spent a long time looking for a way to portray Mariangela’s appearance as ugly as she was described in the book. For this reason, Fantozzi's daughter was actually played by a short actor with a prosthetic nose.
• The character of Geometer Fillini, as performed by Gigi Reder, is a parody of the Italian film director Federico Fellini. This is indicated both by the similarity of the surnames and the hero's appearance.
• The character Fantozzi is so popular in Italy that the word “fantocciano” has entered common usage, meaning something or someone as unlucky as Fantozzi.
• Although the Fantozzi surname is considered to be from Northern Italy, it is actually of Sicilian origin. The film, however, was based on a Northern Italian family and shot in Northern Italy, thereby reinforcing the common belief that the surname has Northern Italian roots. The original version of this surname was Fantoccino, and it all stemmed from it being used in a shortened form just once.
