• This film was not originally intended to be part of the "American Ninja" franchise. "Cannon Pictures" shot it under the title "American Dragons" (under which title it was even shown on cable television), but the title was changed to "American Ninja 5" before its release. This explains why David Bradley plays Joe, and not Sean Davidson, whom he played for Cedric Sandstrom in the 1989 action films "American Ninja 3: Blood Hunt" and a year later – in "American Ninja 4: The Annihilation".
