Short description
An ageing hard-living 1970s rock star decides to change his life when he discovers a 40-year-old undelivered letter written to him by John Lennon.
What's left behind the scenes
- Initially, Julianne Moore and Jeremy Renner were supposed to star in the film, but after funding issues, Annette Bening and Bobby Cannavale replaced them.
- Until 2011, the film was being developed by Warner Bros., and Steve Carell was considered for the lead role.
- The filmmakers were inspired by the story of singer Steve Tilston, who learned about the existence of a letter written to him by John Lennon only 34 years after it was written.
- The concert footage of Danny Collins at the beginning of the film was shot at a Chicago concert in Los Angeles.
