Short description
An artist falls for a married young woman while he's commissioned to paint her portrait. The two invest in the risky tulip market in hopes to build a future together.
What's left behind the scenes
- The film is based on the novel of the same name by Deborah Moggach.
- Negotiations for the lead role were held with Matthias Schoenaerts, but the actor declined the offer and the role went to Dane DeHaan.
- The film is set in the Netherlands, and all the characters are Dutch. Filming took place in the UK, and none of the actors are Dutch.
- Producer Harvey Weinstein offered the role of Matvey to singer Harry Styles, but he couldn't find the time to film, and Matthew Morrison was cast in the role.
