What's left behind the scenes

  • Some scenes from the film were shot in Miami Beach.
  • Filming took place in the state of Georgia.
  • This is the fourth installment in the 'Alvin and the Chipmunks' franchise.
  • The filmmakers at one point considered offering the role of Samantha to Odette Annable and Bryce Dallas Howard.
  • This is the first film in the series where the special effects in the chipmunk scenes were created by 'Weta Digital' instead of 'Rhythm and Hues'. 'Rhythm and Hues' filed for bankruptcy in 2013.
  • Jason Lee and Eddie Steeples met on the set of this film for the first time since filming the 'My Name Is Earl' series, which aired on 'NBC' from 2005 to 2009.
  • This is the second film in the series after "Alvin and the Chipmunks 3" (2011), for which Mark Mothersbaugh composed the music, and the first film intended for theatrical release after "Alvin and the Chipmunks 3", which was released four years prior.
  • On March 23, 2015, it was announced that Bella Thorne had joined the film's cast.
  • There were rumors at one point that Alvin would be voiced by Matthew Lillard instead of Justin Long in the fourth film. It was later revealed that Lillard was busy with his role as "Shaggy" Rogers in the "Scooby-Doo" franchise, so Long once again voiced Alvin.
