Short description
Danny Muldoon, a Chicago policeman, still lives with his overbearing mother Rose. He meets and falls in love with Theresa Luna , whose father owns the local funeral parlour. Naturally, his mother objects to the relationship, and Danny and Theresa must either overcome her objections or give up the romance.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Roddy McDowall (1928-1998) was originally considered for the role of Doyle.
  • The film features the Willoughby railroad station at the end. It is located in a fictional town from the "Willoughby" episode of the "Twilight Zone" series (1959-2003).
  • Director and screenwriter Chris Columbus initially envisioned Maureen O'Hara for the role of the mother. He was unaware that the actress had long since retired and was living at the time in Santa Cruz on the American Virgin Islands. O'Hara liked the script, but refused to sign a filming contract until she met John Candy (1950-1994), who played the main role.
