What's left behind the scenes

  • To prepare for her role, Linda Darnell (1923-1965) worked as a waitress in the studio cafeteria for a week.
  • Before agreeing to appear in this film, Alice Faye (1915-1998) rejected over 30 scripts. She hoped this film would be on par with Otto Preminger's (1905-1986) drama “Laura” (1944). However, when she saw a rough cut of the film and realized that Preminger had cut most of the scenes with her character in favor of scenes with Linda Darnell’s character, Faye stopped the screening, drove towards the exit of the 20th Century Fox studio lot, threw her dressing room key to the security guard at the gate, and vowed never to work for 20th Century Fox again.
