What's left behind the scenes

  • In a scene in the film's trailer where Logan is drinking at a cemetery, the surname Peters is carved on one of the tombstones. This refers to actor Evan Peters, who played Peter Maximoff, also known as "Quicksilver", in Brian Singer's films "X-Men: Days of Future Past" (2014) and "X-Men: Apocalypse" (2016).
  • The second film in the "X-Men" franchise, which premiered at an international film festival (in Berlin). The premiere screening of the science fiction action film "X-Men: The Last Stand" in 2006 took place at the Cannes Film Festival.
  • It was believed that assigning an R rating (under 17 requires accompanying parent or adult guardian) to the film was a result of the success of "Deadpool" (2016), as all previous installments in the Wolverine series had been marked with a PG-13 rating (parents strongly cautioned). However, producer Simon Kinberg stated that the decision to make an adult film was made in advance.
  • Producers were in negotiations with Liev Schreiber, trying to arrange the appearance of his character, Victor Creed (Sabretooth), from "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" (2009), but these plans did not materialize.
  • This is the first appearance on the big screen of Laura Kinney, known as the mutant X-23.
  • Stephen Merchant shaved his head bald specifically for the role of the mutant Caliban. In the film *X-Men: Apocalypse* (2016), this character was played by Thomas Lemarquis.
  • Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart are the only actors who appeared in previous films in the franchise. The film does not mention specific characters from past films or their fates.
  • Millie Bobby Brown auditioned for the role of Laura.
  • There is an official black and white version of the film titled *Logan Noir*.
  • The film is based on storylines from the comics *Old Man Logan* (the last adventure of the aging Logan), *Mutant Massacre* (the murder of mutants), and *X-23* (Wolverine meets his clone-daughter who is pursued by Mister Sinister).
  • The ninth and final performance of Hugh Jackman as Logan/Wolverine.
  • This film was the first in Patrick Stewart's career for which he had to lose weight for a role.
  • The filmmakers drew inspiration from the films *Unforgiven* (1992), *The Wrestler* (2008), and *Shane* (1953). Charles Xavier and Laura watch the latter in a hotel.
  • The last film in the *X-Men* cinematic universe to feature Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart.
  • Before filming scenes where Wolverine appears shirtless, Hugh Jackman did not drink anything for two days to induce dehydration. The actor used the same method five years earlier before filming with Tom Hooper in the drama "Les Misérables" (2012).
  • According to Sir Patrick Stewart, many lines in the conversation at the table, where he and Hugh Jackman (Professor Charles Xavier and Logan, respectively) talk about the school for mutants, were improvised by the actors themselves at the request of the film's director James Mangold, who disliked the footage with the lines written in the script.
  • Director James Mangold was so impressed by the dedication to work of Risa Kilar (Laura's stunt double, played by Daphne Keen) that he gave her a small role in this film.
  • Daphne Keen (who played Laura) was 11 years old during filming, and despite all the permissions being obtained in advance, she was not allowed into the casino. Therefore, some scenes with Keen were filmed in front of a green screen, and some – directly in the casino, but not with Keen, but with her stunt double Sherami Martin, who was already 18 years old.
  • When Charles Xavier began to have seizures, Hugh Jackman didn't simply pretend to be repelled by an invisible force. He was held by two people on ropes, which added to the authenticity of his portrayal.
  • To play the role of the old and sick Xavier, actor Patrick Stewart lost almost 10 kg (22 lbs). According to Stewart, he weighed roughly the same since adolescence, and he had never intentionally lost weight before. In all scenes where Wolverine carries Xavier in his arms, Hugh Jackman was actually carrying Patrick Stewart.
  • At some point, Hugh Jackman firmly decided that this would be his last project in the role of Wolverine. He usually cited age and health as explanations. In addition, he had the example of Jerry Seinfeld, who played himself in the series “Seinfeld” (1989-1998) and became quite tiresome to viewers. Jackman said he really didn't want to become equally tiresome to audiences in the role of Wolverine.
  • When auditioning for the role of Laura, Daphne Keen asked director James Mangold if she would be allowed to improvise. When Hugh Jackman began speaking according to the script, Keen interrupted him, shouting something in perfect Spanish. This moment was not in the script, but it was included in the film.
  • It was believed that the film being given an R rating (under 17 requires accompanying parent) was a result of the success of 'Deadpool' (2016), as all previous installments in the Wolverine series had been rated PG-13 (parents strongly cautioned). However, producer Simon Kinberg stated that the decision to make an adult film had been made in advance.
  • Producers negotiated with Liev Schreiber, attempting to arrange for his character Victor Creed (Sabretooth) from 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' (2009) to appear, but these plans did not materialize.
  • Stephen Merchant shaved his head specifically for the role of the mutant Caliban. In 'X-Men: Apocalypse' (2016), this character was played by Thomas Lemarquis.
  • The filmmakers drew inspiration from the films 'Unforgiven' (1992), 'The Wrestler' (2008), and 'Shane' (1953). The latter is being watched by Charles Xavier and Laura in the hotel.
