This film marked Kirk Douglas's cinematic debut.
The film had two working titles — Strange Love and Bleeding Lies of Love.
In an interview with the Sun Mirror newspaper, director Lewis Milestone stated that he would never work with producer Hal Wallis again, as a conflict occurred between them during filming – Wallis demanded that some scenes be reshot and that a closer shot of actress Elizabeth Scott be made. The director refused to comply, and Wallis reshot the scenes himself.
