The film is based on a situation that happened to Boaz Davidson in his youth.
At the Big Apple party, in the bathroom, you can notice posters of the bands “Oingo Boingo” and “Devo,” whose songs are featured in this film.
Diane Franklin, who played Karen, is deaf in her left ear. This is why she is never shown riding a moped in the film. Any hearing impairment affects the ability to maintain balance to the extent that riding a bicycle, moped, or motorcycle becomes impossible. Franklin herself revealed this on set.
