Short description
Linda Watt is a sheltered but brilliant young scientist who is plucked out of her company's lab and sent to India by her CEO to sell "Rice 9," a genetically modified rice she's created. However, unbeknownst to her, the rice will destroy the Indian farmers she thinks she's helping.
What's left behind the scenes
- The film was originally shot in 2013. Unfortunately, it was not possible to shoot everything at once, as the monsoon season began. Additional funds had to be raised, and the film had to be reshot. This happened in 2015.
- Initially, it was planned to film in the state of Tamil Nadu in southern India, however, due to a drought, filming had to be moved to the state of Kerala in the southwest of the country.
- Utkarsh Ambudkar initially failed the audition, but subsequently landed the role in the film thanks to his improvisational skills and brilliant on-screen chemistry with Brie Larson.
