What's left behind the scenes

  • The events depicted in the film are fictional, but Lake Mungo is real. It is located in the Australian state of New South Wales, and some scenes were filmed there. The dried-up Lake Mungo attracts archaeologists. In 1968, the remains of an Aboriginal woman were discovered there. She was ritually buried approximately 40,000 years ago. These are among the earliest anatomically modern human remains found in the world. Five years later, the remains of a man were discovered in the same location.
  • The stones covered with drawings shown in the film are real. They are located in the Australian state of Victoria and are called the “Sisters Rocks” in honor of three sisters who arrived here among the first settlers during the gold rush in the mid-1800s.
  • When the photo of Ellis's ghost is shown in the backyard, the ghost of Ellis himself is sitting on a bench in the upper right corner of the frame.
  • On the first night, you can already spot the neighbor on the right side of the screen.
