What's left behind the scenes

  • Rita Mэй Brown wrote a screenplay parodying slashers and titled it 'Sleepless Nights'.
  • Overhead shots in the gym were achieved by lifting the operator up in a lift cradle, as the film's budget did not allow its creators to afford a camera crane.
  • Editor Amy Holden Jones wanted to try her hand at directing and asked for advice from Francis Doel, a writer known for her collaboration with Roger Corman. Doel gave Jones several screenplays, and Jones chose the screenplay that would eventually become 'Blood Party' (initially considered the title 'Don't Open the Door'). Jones decided to film the first three scenes from the script. Her husband, Michael Chapman, purchased equipment and supplies, hired actors at the University of California, and they shot all the scenes in their own home over a weekend, costing only $1,000. After that, Jones showed the footage to Corman, and he agreed to finance the project.
  • During the filming of the scene with Kim's body in the refrigerator, actress Debra Deliso had to actually climb into the refrigerator, hold her breath for 5 seconds and play dead, and do this for two takes. Fortunately, Deliso had previously been involved in sports, so she was able to cope, although she later described filming this particular scene as 'difficult'.
