Short description
Dispatched to a small Italian town to await further orders, assassin Jack embarks on a double life that may be more relaxing than is good for him.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The film is based on Martin Booth's novel "A Very Private Gentleman" (1990).
  • The film is set in the Abruzzo region of Italy, east of Rome. It is an inaccessible and majestic mountainous region, a location, according to Corbijn, that had few parallels in cinema.
  • On April 6, 2009, an earthquake struck Abruzzo; 30,000 people were injured, and 60,000 were left homeless; much of the city of L'Aquila, where Corbijn intended to film, lay in ruins. Clooney visited L'Aquila with actor Bill Murray on April 9th to support the victims of the disaster and open a cinema in the tent city in San Demetrio. He promised that filming would begin as early as September.
  • Attentive viewers should notice the appearance of a black mastiff dog in some scenes in Castel del Monte. Wally, as the dog was named, lived in the town square and was picked up by the film crew. Every time the command “Action!” was given, the dog happily ran into the frame.
  • Castel del Monte has only 129 residents. When one of the crew members needed urgent dental care, he heard the following message on the local dentist's answering machine: “Unavailable, as I am participating in the filming of a Hollywood movie.”
  • Filming took place in Italy and Sweden from September 28 to November 16, 2009.
  • The film is based on Martin Booth's novel "A Very Private Gentleman" (1990).
  • Observant viewers should notice the appearance of a black mastiff dog in some scenes at Castel del Monte. Wally, as the dog was called, lived in the square and was picked up by the film crew. Every time the command "Action!" was given, the dog happily ran into the frame.
