What's left behind the scenes
- Screenwriters Steven Kampmann and William Porter disliked the film so much that they demanded their pseudonyms be used in the credits and in the film's promotional campaign.
- Martin Short, who played the 10-year-old Clifford, was 40 years old during filming.
- The actors who appear alongside Martin Short stand on boxes and next to oversized set pieces.
- Before its theatrical release in 1994, the film was re-edited and included some newly shot scenes, including scenes with Martin Short as an elderly Clifford, who tries to convince a student played by Ben Savage not to run away by telling him about his own childhood. These scenes were filmed approximately in 1993, three years after principal photography had ended.
