What's left behind the scenes
- Bette Davis (1908-1989), who later played the leading role in this film, long implored Warner Bros. to acquire the rights to film it in order to star in it, but they refused, claiming that no one would want to watch a film where a person loses their sight. Davis, however, got her way, and the film proved so commercially successful that it became one of Warner Bros.' most successful projects in the year of its release.
