What's left behind the scenes
- James Wan was unable to direct this film due to his commitment to "Furious 7" (2015). However, he appeared in a cameo role as one of the judges during Quinn Brenner's audition.

Preparation for the scenes in which Quinn Brenner was subjected to supernatural forces was especially effective. Whannell locked the actress in a dark storage room and made her listen to gloomy music in complete darkness for about half an hour. To discourage colleagues from releasing her from this "captivity," a security guard stood outside. Periodically, Lee would burst into the storage room and check if the actress had lowered the volume on her headphones.
