• The film is based on M.L. Stedman’s novel *The Light Between Oceans*.
• Having met on the set of the film "The Light Between Oceans" in September 2014, Alicia Vikander and Michael Fassbender announced their relationship in December of the same year.
• Filming took place in Stanley, a small coastal town in northwestern Tasmania. Some key scenes were filmed in the port of Chalmers, a port and suburb of Dunedin. The film is largely set on a lighthouse at Cape Campbell in Marlborough (one of the regions of New Zealand). The film crew and actors lived there during the 5.5-week shoot.
• Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander admitted that during filming, the film's director Derek Cianfrance suggested placing their trailers next to each other.
• Under the agreement, this is the last film from DreamWorks to be distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures under the Touchstone label.
• A pier was specially constructed and "aged" in Stanley for the filming. Many local residents, hired as extras, grew beards as was customary for men in the 1920s.
