• In the English title of the film, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (literally "Guardians of the Galaxy. Part 2"), "Part 2" refers the viewer to a collection of Star-Lord's recordings called Awesome Mix Vol. 1 (or "Cool Compilation. Part 1") from the first film.
• James Gunn confessed that he and Kevin Feige really wanted to cast David Bowie in a cameo role, but the singer passed away on January 10, 2016.
• The role of the villain in the film was offered to Matthew McConaughey, but the actor declined the offer.
• The first film to use the Weapon 8K camera manufactured by Red Digital Cinema Camera Company. It is the digital equivalent of cameras working with 70mm film.
