- Andy Samberg played tennis in his youth and didn't even practice before filming. Keith Harrington got by with just one session with a professional coach.
- The film's plot is inspired by the first-round match of the 2010 Wimbledon tournament between John Isner and Nicolas Mahut. The match lasted 11 hours and 5 minutes over three days and became the longest match in the history of tennis at official tournaments. Isner won the fifth set with a score of 70:68.
