What's left behind the scenes

  • Funding for the film was sought through the website kickstarter.com – an English-language platform aimed at developing and supporting creative initiatives from people around the world.
  • At the very beginning of work on the film, they planned to make it short, only 40 minutes long.
  • At the end of the film, the doll sings a Japanese children's song about the boy Momotaro, who was born in a peach (peach is "momo" in Japanese) and went with his friends (a dog, a pheasant, and a monkey) to search for treasure on an island of demons.
  • There is no word in Japanese that means "heavenly goddess" and even remotely resembles the word "Anomalisa." Perhaps it refers to "Amaterasu" – the sun goddess, one of the main deities of the Shinto pantheon.
