To prepare for filming, John Travolta took a 500-hour Spanish language course. When asked why, the actor replied: "Just in case."
William Hurt didn't part with his cigarette even during filming, which almost led to reshoots of some scenes. Eventually, it was decided to remove the cigarettes from the frame during post-production.
