Short description
19-year-old Billy Lynn is brought home for a victory tour after a harrowing Iraq battle. Through flashbacks the film shows what really happened to his squad – contrasting the realities of war with America's perceptions.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The first film shot at 120 frames per second.
  • Joe Alwyn's debut in a feature film.
  • Ang Lee got the idea to film with an unprecedented frame rate after seeing Douglas Trumbull's experimental film shot at 60 frames per second.
  • Kristen Stewart hadn't yet grown her hair back after working on Drake Doremus' dystopian film 'Equals' (2015), so she had extensions put in for filming.
  • Steve Martin once admitted that, due to Joe Alwyn's typically American accent, he mistook him for an American for several weeks after meeting him, until he learned he was from the UK.
  • Due to the high shooting speed, 540 terabytes of video footage were shot, of which 84 terabytes made it into the film.
  • J.J. Watt and Richard Sherman, stars of the National Football League, appeared in cameo roles in the film. They play the players who ask Billy questions about the war.
  • This is Steve Martin's second film role, with a plot revolving around Thanksgiving. His first film was John Hughes' comedy "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" (1987).
