Short description
During a shootout in a saloon, Sheriff Hunt injures a suspicious stranger. The doctor's assistant, wife of the local foreman, tends to him in prison. That night, the town is attacked and they both disappear—only the arrow of a cannibal tribe is found. Hunt and a few of his men go in search of the prisoner and the foreman's wife.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Jim Broadbent temporarily replaced Richard Jenkins for several months, but Jenkins eventually returned to the cast.
  • Initially, Peter Sarsgaard and Jennifer Carpenter were to play the O'Dayers, and Timothy Olyphant was considered for the role of John Bruder.
  • The final version of the film was shot based on the first draft of the script.
  • Before settling on California, producers considered filming in New Mexico and Utah.
  • Michael Winckott was originally considered for the role of Buddy.
  • Zaler wrote the screenplay for the film in 2007.
  • This is the second cannibal western starring David Arquette. The first film was «Ravenous» (1999).
  • In the very first shots showing Pervis and Buddy, Pervis has perfect white teeth. As Pervis and Buddy track their prey, his teeth are shown as white, then rotten and yellow, and then white again.
  • When one of the cannibals tries to shoot Hunt with Bruder's rifle, a clicking sound is heard with each trigger pull, which is impossible. In lever-action rifles, reloading is done manually by moving the lever around the trigger, which the cannibal eventually discovers. Without this movement, pressing the trigger does nothing.
  • This is the second cannibal western starring David Arquette. The first film was “Ravenous” (1999).
