Short description
A comedy that follows a group of friends as they navigate their way through the freedoms and responsibilities of unsupervised adulthood.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Director Richard Linklater claims that the film is a continuation of his drama 'Boyhood' (2014) in the sense that its action begins at the moment the previous film ends – the main character arrives at college for the first time and meets new friends and a girl.
  • Initially, the film was going to be titled 'That's What I'm Talking About' – a phrase taken from Richard Linklater's comedy 'Dazed and Confused' (1993).
  • Filming of some episodes took place on the territory of Texas State University in San Marcos. Some scenes were shot in the business district of the city.
  • The events in the film unfold between August 28 and September 1, 1980.
  • The bar The Fox actually exists. It's called Jolly Fox and is located in Huntsville, Texas. The director Richard Linklater studied and played baseball in this city. The name Jolly Fox can even be seen in the film on the side of a building.
  • The song "Urgent" by Foreigner was not released as a single until July 1981. In fact, it wasn't even recorded until 1981.
  • The credits state that the cat owner's name is Bernie Tiede. That was the name of the main character in one of Richard Linklater's previous films ("Bernie", 2011). In the black comedy "Bernie", this character kills an elderly woman and hides her body in a refrigerator. In the comedy "Everybody Wants Some!!", a cat jumps out of the refrigerator when it's opened.
  • Willoughby taped almost all episodes of the science fiction series "The Twilight Zone", which began airing in 1959. In the episode "Willoughby" (1960), a character played by James Daly reminisces about the past and takes steps to return to it. Similarly, Willoughby does the same in the comedy "Everybody Wants Some!!".
