The manga author, Hajime Isayama, initially thought the protective barrier would be made of trees, but ultimately chose a large wall.
The Titan in the manga was 60 meters tall. In the film, it grew to 120 meters.
The film was shot on an abandoned mining island.
Tetsuya Nakashima was originally slated to direct the film, but he left the project due to creative differences.
Most of the Titans were portrayed by actors in makeup, with only a small amount of computer animation added.
