Short description

During the last winter of the Civil War, cavalry officer Amos Dundee leads a contentious troop of Army regulars, Confederate prisoners and scouts on an expedition into Mexico to destroy a band of Apaches who have been raiding U.S. bases in Texas.

What's left behind the scenes

In 2005, a new version of the film was released on DVD, including some footage previously removed against the director's wishes. A new soundtrack was also written for the film.
During the making of the film, director Sam Peckinpah clashed with Columbia Pictures several times. Due to the director's alcohol addiction and constant arguments on set, actor Charlton Heston was forced to oversee the filming of some scenes, and he refused payment.
The restored version of 2005 has a runtime of 136 minutes, while the full director's cut runs 152 minutes.
