What's left behind the scenes

  • The initial title was "Saw: Legacy".
  • Despite initially being intended as the concluding film in the series, "Saw 3D" (2010), Lionsgate expressed interest in continuing the franchise in 2012. Development of another installment began in 2016. The eighth film’s events take place after those of "Saw 3D".
  • This is the first installment in the "Saw" series to be released more than a year after the previous one.
  • "Saw 8" is the first film in the franchise to be directed by two directors – Michael Spierig and Peter Spierig. It is also the first film in the series shot in an anamorphic format (aspect ratio of 2.35:1).
  • The film was shot in 2016 in Toronto (Canada). Filming began on September 26, on the birthday of Gustavo Gularte, who was initially considered for the lead role. Because Gularte was unable to obtain a work visa in time, the role went to another actor, however, Gularte posted a video of his audition on YouTube titled Walking After You.
  • Work on the film's script was completed in February 2016.
  • A reference to 'Saw 8' is present in James Wan's horror film 'Insidious' (2010). It refers to a drawn clown with the number 8 underneath it, which can be noticed in one of the episodes.
  • Tobin Bell again played the role of Jigsaw, even though his character died in 'Saw 3' (2006).
  • In the first scene of the film, when Edgar's car drives over a police spike strip, it can be seen that only the two left tires are punctured. Also, in subsequent shots just before the collision with the police barricade, all the car's wheels are once again intact.
  • At the 31st minute, Halloran asks his partner, Keith Hunt, what happened to Logan in the city of El-Fallujah. Keith reports that Logan was captured, but before that, he managed to kill three Taliban fighters. This is an error, as the Taliban is an Afghan movement, while El-Fallujah is located in Iraq.
  • When Anna tries to stop the trap and climbs onto the motorcycle at the 51st minute of the film, it can be noticed that the rear wheel of the motorcycle is not rotating.
  • Although originally intended to be the final film in the series, "Saw 3D" (2010), Lionsgate expressed interest in continuing the franchise in 2012. Development of another installment began in 2016. The eighth film takes place after the events of "Saw 3D".
  • "Saw 8" is the first film in the franchise to be co-directed by Michael Spierig and Peter Spierig. It is also the first film in the series shot in an anamorphic format (aspect ratio of 2.35:1).
  • A reference to "Saw 8" appears in James Wan's horror film "The Conjuring" (2010). It is a drawing of a clown with the number 8 underneath it, which can be seen in one of the scenes.
  • Tobin Bell reprised his role as Jigsaw, despite his character's death in *Saw III* (2006).
