Short description
After the devastating events of Avengers: Infinity War, the universe is in ruins due to the efforts of the Mad Titan, Thanos. With the help of remaining allies, the Avengers must assemble once more in order to undo Thanos' actions and restore order to the universe once and for all, no matter what consequences may be in store.

What's left behind the scenes

  • On July 21, 2019, the film set a world record for box office takings and became the highest-grossing film in history.
  • During its first few days of release, the film set several box office records: the fastest achievement of $1 billion in revenue (5 days), the largest weekend gross worldwide ($1.2 billion), the largest weekend gross worldwide for the IMAX format ($91.5 million), and the largest weekend gross worldwide for the 3D format ($540 million).
  • On May 9, 2019, the film surpassed the $2.2 billion worldwide box office milestone, thereby displacing James Cameron's "Titanic" from second place on the list of all-time highest-grossing films. Cameron himself congratulated the Kevin Feige team on Twitter.
  • Natalie Portman did not participate in filming the movie; instead, a deleted scene from "Thor: The Dark World" was used, to which the actress recorded voiceover.
  • Only Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. read the full script. The other actors were only familiar with the parts featuring their characters.
  • The film's first official trailer was the first in YouTube history to receive over a million 'likes' in less than 4 hours.
  • The first Marvel Cinematic Universe film since "The Incredible Hulk" (a scene where Tony Stark walks into a bar plays during the credits) that does not include a post-credits scene.
  • Clint Barton appears in Japan as a ronin. This plot twist comes from the comics, where he became a ronin after the Civil War during a mission in Japan. It is believed that he turns into a ronin with a snap of Thanos's fingers, causing him to lose his family.
  • The film was shot concurrently with the science fiction action movie "Avengers: Infinity War" (Anthony and Joe Russo, 2018). Filming took 200 days.
  • Robert Downey Jr. (who played Tony Stark – Iron Man) had snacks stashed everywhere for a quick bite. All the scenes where his character is chewing something and offering snacks to his co-stars were pure improvisation.
  • While working on the idea of time travel, the screenwriters consulted with genuine specialists in quantum physics.
  • All the costumes of the main characters shown in the film in the quantum realm are products of visual effects (or VFX – the process by which images are created or manipulated outside the context of live-action filming), as filming began before the costume designers could develop the concept for these costumes.
  • The prosthetic stomach worn by Chris Hemsworth in the role of Thor was made of silicone and latex and weighed around 40 kg. The prosthetic was carefully fitted to the actor's body.
  • When Frigg, played by Rene Russo, approaches Thor hiding behind a column, both characters shriek in surprise. Russo's shriek wasn't scripted; she simply didn't expect Chris Hemsworth to shriek and flinch as well.
  • At Tony Stark's funeral, a teenager can be seen standing behind Elizabeth Olsen and Sebastian Stan's characters. This is Harley Keener, played by Ty Simpkins, the one who repaired Stark's superhero suit in Shane Black's 2013 sci-fi action film *Iron Man 3*.
  • Before filming the funeral scene, Tom Holland (who played Spider-Man, and in real life often reveals details of upcoming filming at press conferences, i.e., spoils things) was told that they would be filming a wedding.
  • The opening scene with Jeremy Renner's character was originally planned to be inserted into the finale of the Russo brothers' 2018 sci-fi action film *Avengers: Infinity War*. However, Hawkeye didn't appear in that film at all, so Anthony and Joe Russo moved the scene to the beginning of this film.
  • On May 9, 2019, the film surpassed the $2.2 billion worldwide box office mark, displacing James Cameron’s “Titanic” from second place on the list of highest-grossing films of all time. The latter, in turn, congratulated Kevin Feige’s team on Twitter.
  • Natalie Portman did not participate in the filming of the movie; instead, a deleted scene from “Thor: The Dark World” was used, to which the actress recorded a voiceover.
  • The first Marvel Cinematic Universe film since 'The Incredible Hulk' (with a scene of Tony Stark entering a bar, running through the credits) that does not include a post-credits scene.
  • At Tony Stark’s funeral, a teenager can be seen standing behind Elizabeth Olsen and Sebastian Stan’s characters. This is Harley Keener, played by Ty Simpkins, the same boy who fixed Stark’s superhero suit in Shane Black’s sci-fi action film 'Iron Man 3' (2013).
