The title "We'll Go to Grandma's" was inspired by the opening line of the song E vva, E vva, which was performed by Alberto Sordi at the Sanremo Festival in 1981.
A keen-eyed viewer will notice quotes in the film, for example, from George Romero's "Dawn of the Dead" and Steno's (Stefano Vanzina) comedy "Mad Race".
The film was shot entirely in the province of Syracuse.
In many scenes, non-professional actors play alongside ordinary Sicilians, spontaneously recruited during filming.
Friends of the comedians can be seen in cameo roles – Christian Maggio, a player for the Napoli football club, singer Franco Battiato, and director Emanuele Crialese.
