According to Luigi Cozzi (a film director and screenwriter who occasionally worked under the pseudonym Louis Coates), the film's director Antonio Margheriti allowed his friend, the producer, to be credited as the director in order to receive subsidies from the Italian government. This decision led to a long and rather costly legal dispute.
This film is occasionally referred to as "Andy Warhol's Frankenstein." Artist, director, and producer Andy Warhol (1928-1987) had no direct involvement in the creation of the film, but he would periodically visit the set and also visit the filmmakers after shooting, during the editing process.
