Short description
When his boss is killed, Detroit cop Alex Foley finds evidence that the murderer had ties to a California amusement park called Wonder World. Returning to sunny Beverly Hills once more, Foley reunites with Detective Billy Rosewood to solve the case. Along with Billy's new partner, Detective Jon Flint, they discover that Wonder World is being used as a front for a massive counterfeiting ring.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Work on the film was temporarily halted to allow Paramount studio executives to recover from the skyrocketing budget. Initially planned for $50 million, the amount soon increased to $70 million, with $15 million of the total allocated to Eddie Murphy's fee.
  • The original plot involved sending the characters played by Murphy, Judge Reinhold, and John Ashton to London to rescue Captain Bogomil, played by Ronnie Cox, who had been taken hostage by terrorists during an international police convention. However, numerous script and budget problems prolonged work on the film so much that Cox and Ashton left the production due to commitments to other projects.
  • George Lucas appeared in a cameo role. Axel Foley, while fleeing security guards at an amusement park, bumps into him and climbs into the "Octopus" car.
