What's left behind the scenes

  • The film is based on Lewis Carroll's tale "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" (1865).
  • Many scenes in the film directly replicate illustrations by Sir John Tenniel (1820-1914), the first illustrator of Lewis Carroll's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" (1862-1865). (Lewis Carroll's real name was Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, 1832-1898).
  • The scene where Alice walks down the corridor and grows larger and larger was filmed in a specially constructed corridor that decreased in size.
  • Martin Short's head was digitally enlarged threefold to more closely resemble the March Hare from John Tenniel's original illustrations.
  • The image of the Cheshire Cat was created using a combination of puppets (for the body) and computer graphics (Whoopi Goldberg's face was scanned and overlaid onto the image).
  • The film is based on Lewis Carroll's fairy tale "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" (1865).
