What's left behind the scenes

  • An adaptation of the classic tale by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.
  • In the English and French versions of the cartoon, the Rose is voiced by Marion Cotillard.
  • Among the actors who voiced the characters in the cartoon were three Academy Award winners (Benicio Del Toro, Marion Cotillard, and Jeff Bridges) and three nominees (Albert Brooks, Paul Giamatti, and James Franco).
  • This is a French cartoon, however, the original voice-over is in English. "Paramount Vintage," the company involved in distribution in the United States, prohibited the showing of the English version of the cartoon in other countries until its release in the US, so the French version is being shown worldwide.
  • "The Little Prince" was one of James Dean’s favorite books, and James Franco is a fan of his. Franco played his idol in the biographical film “James Dean” (2001). This role earned him a Golden Globe.
  • "The Little Prince" was the first non-American animated film to cause a sensation in Brazil. For three weeks, the cartoon topped the Brazilian charts, and by October 8, 2015, it had been viewed by over 2 million people.
  • This is the first full-length animated adaptation of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's “The Little Prince” in history.
  • The desert sets were mainly made of paper. The Little Prince was made from self-hardening polymer clay based on cellulose.
  • Thanks to the efforts of Mark Osborne, who scouted actors worldwide, and the popularity of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's book, many famous actors agreed to participate in the project. Jeff Bridges was the first to sign on (he voiced the old pilot). Osborne was desperate to meet him anywhere, so he simply went to his home in Santa Barbara to talk. That conversation kickstarted the assembly of a star-studded cast.
  • Mark Osborne placed a girl at the center of the storyline after the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media (a non-profit organization that researches gender representation in the media and advocates for equal representation of women and men) identified gender inequality among the characters in animated films. The girl was voiced by 12-year-old Mackenzie Foy.
  • This is a French animated film, however the original voiceover is in English. Paramount Vintage, the company handling distribution in the US, prohibited the showing of the English version of the film in other countries until its release in the US, so the French version is being shown worldwide.
