Joan Plowright's husband, Sir Laurence Olivier (1907-1989), passed away shortly before filming completed. Learning that he would not get out of bed again, she literally filmed the remaining scenes in a day and returned to the UK.
Joey is watching David Lean's film "The Bridge on the River Kwai" (1957) on television.
The film is based on the story of Frances Toto and her four unsuccessful attempts to kill her unfaithful husband Anthony in Allentown, Pennsylvania in 1984. Anthony spent four days in bed after being shot by Frances and her friends, who were sentenced to four years in prison for attempted murder.
