Short description
Uzak/Distant chronicles the numbing loneliness, longing, and isolation in the lives of two men who are consumed by their own problems. Istanbul photographer Mahmut reluctantly receives his relative Yusuf, but the mingling of their lives does little to alleviate their detachment.
What's left behind the scenes
- Turkish director Nuri Bilge Ceylan, a great admirer of Andrei Tarkovsky, also makes his character a fan of the Russian director, and forces him to watch "Stalker" (1979) and "Mirror" (1974). Furthermore, he cast his own mother in the film, as Tarkovsky used to do.
- Mahmut lives in an apartment that belongs to the director, and drives his car as well.
- Jaylan said in an interview that he hadn't planned to film Yusuf's travels through snowy Istanbul. However, when he saw how beautiful the city looked on a snowy day, he decided to shoot a few scenes.
