What's left behind the scenes
- When the film was released, Sylvester Stallone was the same age (69) as Burgess Meredith was when "Rocky" was released (1976).
- To maintain tradition, Sylvester Stallone (Rocky Balboa) insisted that Michael B. Jordan (Adonis Creed) wear the same American flag-colored trunks that Apollo Creed wore in "Rocky" (1976), and that Rocky himself wore in "Rocky III" (1982) and "Rocky IV" (1985).
- This is the first film in the "Rocky" series not scripted by Sylvester Stallone. The screenplay was written by Ryan Coogler in collaboration with Aaron Covington. Coogler and Covington consulted with Stallone during the writing process.

It's a special connection, and I wanted to preserve it in the new film."
