- The film authorities of the Canadian province of Ontario banned the film as pornographic. The filmmakers applied to register the film as pornographic, however, the film was again banned due to the abundance of violent scenes. By this point, however, the film had already been selected for screening at the Toronto International Film Festival. On March 8, 2001, the film was finally approved for release in Ontario with an R rating (for viewers 18 and over).
- The film is banned from screening in Australia. Attempts to release it to a limited audience were suppressed by the police, acting on behalf of the federal government.
