Bingham was named in honor of Mark Bingham, a player and founder of San Francisco Fog, who died in the September 11th attacks. A rugby tournament in his honor is held every two years.
A total of 21 years were spent preparing for the filming.
To prepare for the role, Sean Faris ran 10 kilometers twice a day in 40-degree heat.
The championship-winning team consists of Māori players, which is evident from their shouts and body patterns. Māori are the indigenous people of New Zealand. Rugby is the national sport in New Zealand.
