Short description
When a massive, gilled monster emerges from the deep and tears through the city, the government scrambles to save its citizens. A rag-tag team of volunteers cuts through a web of red tape to uncover the monster's weakness and its mysterious ties to a foreign superpower. But time is not on their side - the greatest catastrophe to ever befall the world is about to evolve right before their very eyes.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The most difficult thing for Satomi Ishihara, who played the special representative of the US President, was learning to speak English. The actress only found out she was to play an American when she passed the audition.
  • In the film, people encounter Godzilla for the first time on November 3rd. On the same day in 1954, the very first film about Godzilla directed by Ishiro Honda was released in Japan.
  • Mansai Nomura, a Kyogen theater actor, performed Godzilla's movements in the suit connected to motion capture equipment. To slow down his movements, a 10-kilogram weight was attached to the actor's suit. Nomura himself used elements of Japanese dance in some of the movements.
  • Directors Kazuo Hara, Isshin Inudo, Matsuo Suzuki, Akira Ogata, Shinya Tsukamoto, and – in a photograph – Kihachi Okamoto (1923-2005) make cameo appearances.
  • Sharla In Japan, a popular YouTube blogger, served as the English language coach.
