What's left behind the scenes

  • The original title of the film can be translated as "Spider-Man: Graduation".
  • During the promotional tour for his new film "This Is the End" (2013) in 2013, when asked by a journalist about what kind of project he would like to participate in next, Tom Holland replied: "Something with action and humor." When asked if he would like to play a superhero, the actor answered: "Maybe Spider-Man, in ten years. In a reboot of a reboot, if they decide to relaunch the franchise."
  • According to Vincent D'Onofrio, he would be interested in appearing in this film in his role as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin from the series "Daredevil" (2015). Kingpin is a common villain across both franchises and has opposed Spider-Man in many stories about the superhero.
  • Bryan Cranston expressed interest in playing a villain from the Marvel universe, particularly Norman Osborn/Green Goblin. Matthew McConaughey also expressed interest in this role.
  • Filming began on June 20, 2016, in Atlanta, Georgia, under the working title Summer of George.
  • 19-year-old Tom Holland is the youngest actor to play Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield were 25 and 26 years old respectively when they were cast in the role of this superhero.
  • The shortlist of candidates for the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man included Asa Butterfield, Nat Wolff, Timothée Chalamet, Tom Holland, and Liam James.
  • This was the first Spider-Man film where the special effects for the main character’s image were created not by a company affiliated with copyright holder Sony, but by Industrial Light & Magic. This company is often responsible for the special effects in films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
  • At one point, it was believed that Drew Goddard would direct the film. In April 2014, it was announced that Goddard would be the director and screenwriter of 'Sinister Six' for the 'The Amazing Spider-Man' franchise. Goddard was even shortlisted as a candidate to direct 'Spider-Man: Homecoming', but Jon Watts ultimately became the director.
  • According to the terms of the contract with Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures Entertainment, Kevin Feige received nothing for his work as an executive producer on the film.
  • This is not the first Marvel Cinematic Universe film that Martin Starr has been involved with. He previously played a computer expert in Louis Leterrier's *The Incredible Hulk* (2008), which starred Edward Norton.
  • Cillian Murphy expressed interest in playing the villain in this film, as he enjoyed working with Tom Holland on *In the Heart of the Sea*.
  • Chandler Riggs, known for the series *The Walking Dead*, auditioned for the role of Spider-Man.
  • Following the release of Sam Raimi's *Spider-Man 3: Enemy of the Realm* (2007), Sony considered filming a fourth film. Tobey Maguire was slated to reprise his role as the protagonist, and John Malkovich was to play the antagonist, the Vulture. Malkovich had already begun preparing for filming when the project was canceled. A reboot of the franchise was announced with Marc Webb's *The Amazing Spider-Man* starring Andrew Garfield, which was released in 2012.
  • The Vulture became the fourth member of the original Sinister Six to appear in Spider-Man films. In Sam Raimi's *Spider-Man 2* (2004) and *Spider-Man 3: Enemy of the Realm* (2007), the protagonist faced Doctor Octopus and Sandman, respectively. In *The Amazing Spider-Man: High Voltage* (Marc Webb, 2014), the hero battled Electro. Mysterio and Kraven the Hunter are also members of the Sinister Six.
  • The school Peter Parker attends was founded in 1962. This is a reference to the first appearance of Spider-Man in comics, which occurred in August 1962 in an issue of Amazing Fantasy.
  • Jane Levy and Kaya Scodelario were considered for the role of the protagonist's girlfriend.
  • Much of the plot unfolds in Manhattan, New York, but the film was shot primarily in Atlanta, Georgia. Some episodes were filmed in Germany and in New York City itself.
  • Michelle is reading William Somerset Maugham's 'Of Human Bondage' (in the gym) and Vladimir Nabokov's 'Invitation to a Beheading' (on the bus).
  • In the school Peter Parker attends, you can see portraits of Howard Stark (Iron Man's father), Abraham Erskine (the creator of the super-soldier serum that Captain America owes his existence to), and Bruce Banner (the Hulk).
  • Bryan Cranston expressed interest in playing a villain from the Marvel universe, particularly Norman Osborn/Green Goblin. Matthew McConaughey also expressed interest in the role.
  • According to actor Pierre Niney, representatives from Marvel Studios contacted his agents and offered him the opportunity to audition for the role of Peter Parker. However, Pierre declined the casting because he was not ready for such a large-scale project: if he had gotten the role, the actor would have had to participate in the production of Marvel Cinematic Universe films for the next 6-8 years.
