Producer Sam Spiegel (1901-1985) initially wanted Marlon Brando (1924-2004) to play the role of Jason “Jake” Rogers and Marilyn Monroe (1926-1962) to play Anna Reeves, but by the time filming began in 1965, Brando was too old for the role of the younger Rogers and played Sheriff Calder instead.
